Another saturday another fashion event to network at. On Saturday July 30th, Chicago’s fashion savys came out to ‘Cocktails With Claire x Miss Diddy’. Hosted at 19 East venue, the evening included a panel of personalities and influencers in the fashion and beauty industry discussing ways we can all use our creativity to its full potential.
The panel consisted of Claire Sulmers (FashionBombDaily,) Miss Diddy (The Brand Group,)Kendra G. (107.5 WGCI-FM), celebrity make-up artist Ashunta Sheriff, and entrepreneur Bobby Simmons.
We had the opportunity to sip and shop with fellow fashionistas. After the panel, attendees mixed and mingled with vendors, sipped complimentary drinks sponsored by Hennessy, and posed for pictures.
If you follow me on snapchat @chichi_nneka you would know I explained this selfie moments with claire herself.
We posed for a pic with claire and my friend Coco who also is a fashionGirl owner of Shopwithcoco
My look for the event was simple with a little detail.
Excited, Something great happened from attending this event. #networking, will be visible soon.
Hey guys, I am back with another collaboration with RedHeadCreativeStudio with my project “Style in Chicago” featuring the best of my personal style captured around the city of chicago. This time, I decided to incorprate another zurikgirl item.
I am wearing Zurikgirl “Shakara Oloje” Skirt and I turned my over sized button Up shirt into an off shoulder top. If you follow me on my snapchat (@chichi_nneka) you will understand my love for reconstructing, tweeking and DIY(ing) all my clothes. This season, I am all about the obvious details like ruffles and layers, a wrapped waist, a slashed cutout, or an asymmetrical hemline to liven up any look.
We shot this look on the busy intersection of Broadway, a major street in Chicago’s Lake View, Uptown, and Edgewater community area. Random fact: The name of the street was changed to Broadway on August 15, 1913, my birthday is on August 16th. :). Broadway is the only street in the city of Chicago that does not have a suffix. It is neither a Street, Avenue, Road, Boulevard nor Parkway; known simply as Broadway, how cool!
My shoes are Badgley Mischka, and My purse I purchased from Aldo last summer.
If you really know me you would know that I usually plan and go a bit over board for my birthday.
I get all excited and cray cray about it, countdown the days, bug my sisters and friends with all my silly ideas, go out dancing and head home in the early hours, and basically act like its a super long holiday.
This year I kept things much more mellow if I do say so myself, I celebrated with friends and family I mean that was the best gift anyone could ask for.
My birthday weekend Ended with a Fun Night at Shrine Afrofusion Party Hosted by DIS-entertainment. Did so much in-between my birthday weekend Friday – Sunday… snapchat (chichi_nneka) got all that story.
The Second best part of my birthday was going to Miami that following week!!!!! Third time in Miami but it felt so different cause this time I wasn’t going with friends or my sisters….. I went with my Boyfriend. 🙂
barely took pics in MIA because, basically everyday was a No-MAKEUP day it was so humid I couldn’t take it.
Blushing so hard bae gave me a whole photoshoot I even had to capture the moment
Yall should know he didn’t just sit and agree to a damn photoshoot lmfaoooooo…..The story behind these pictures was; I simply was begging Jolo to take my picture and this nice middle aged caucasian lady heard me and answered my cries. She suggested we both take pictures together and even lead us to diff locations hehehehe …. Low-key she gave us a little interview about our relationship and it turned out she is a photographer and everyday womens journalist of real life stories. She also featured us on her IG page with a nice caption.
Overall My birthday Month was splendid!! now I will forever be turning 25!! its my not so perfect age. 🙂 SUMMER CAN OFFICIAL END NOW! CHURCH AGBASALA!!!
So I guess I can say I am at that weird midpoint between calling myself a soon to be MBA graduate and a proper grown up, it’s time to pull myself together and make sure I am well prepared for the big 25. It feels like I just turned 24 yesterday, and honestly I do have a good 5 months plus before my 25th birthday. This is me just preparing, reevaluating, and reassessing with a list of 25 things I need to get on board with and make it a habit.
Start saving: at the top of my 2015 long term goal. I am kinda sorta right on track , Ijust hope I keep it up. Personal saving just keeps me at peace, even though I have plenty of big sisters and loving parents to rely on its always good to build that habit of saving.
Travel: and I don’t mean locally, that’s easy to do. There’s nothing like experiencing a different way of life firsthand. I love traveling with the right people also, I swear it makes a difference in the experience. So far I have Mexico, Paris and Ghana listed in my places to visit before I turn 25/before 2015 is over.
Enjoy my friendship : Yes I am learning to save my free weekends for my real friends. Not every “lets meet up” will be taken seriously. My four categories: I have a definite number of my inner circle friends, Family friends, social media friends and friends by associates.
Budgeting: Honestly budgeting has been my best friend since I started Zurikgirl, nothing happens without a written budget (thanks to Manager Ajie) but it’s so hard for me to budget my personal life. I have to get serious with it apparently people who make a plan for their money end up winning with money. *Two snaps*
Exercise: You all do not understand how much I eat, I am always the one at the table with no doggy bag, I crave for cupcakes and pastries every other day and bread is one of my weakness. With all that being said my body is not 18 anymore, now I have to start making a conscious effort on eating right and working out.
Just do it: like Nike just do it : if your heart want it, don’t fight it, don’t force it. The Italians have a great word; “Asolare“. It means spending time in a meaningless but delightful way.
Eat Exotic Food: for a girl that loves food I am supper picky with what goes into my mouth -__-
Learn to Say No: “Learning to say “no” is an important skill and one that can dramatically increase the quality of our lives. “
Learn to Be Alone: honestly I have always been the girl in long term relationships; I can’t help it, but I also understand the quality of being alone, loving yourself and learning to enjoy your own company. Keeping a good balance is all it takes.
More Wine: I am not a drinker; I don’t drink hard liquor even during occasions, I don’t because I don’t like the taste and not because I feel like I am better than those who drink. But as of late I got introduced to sweet white wine and I am taking baby steps towards ordering wine when I go out. Less juice more wine
Read a romance novel: I can’t bring myself to read a romantic novel it doesn’t interest me. I dont believe in fairytales but i believe in LOVE. My sisters love romance novel, I am sure they will help me in this area!!. I can’t wait to say I finally read my first romance novel.
Vegas: Don’t ask me how I’ve always missed a Vegas trip!!! On three occasions I can remember, for some reason I never get to join on a trip to vegas, and the most recent one is about to happen. Poor me!!!
Mentor or volunteer: For as long as I’ve known my best friend (mimi) she has always had a mentee or been involved in a program where she lends her time for a good cause. I aspire to be like her, I just need to find the time, and place. There are lots of people who didn’t have it as good as I did.
Read the paper: one day I will go to the coffee shop, order my latte, sit down and pick up a newspaper and actually read it. We live in a world where we get all our news from apps, blogs, and fcbk.
Less Linda Ikeja: I am an addict!!! I love Linda, she inspires me and it doesn’t help that her blog is very entertaining and always up to date.
Lie in bed all day with the one you love: being still together, just being there with no other plans but to enjoy each other.
Appreciate my parents often: I am grateful to my parents for everything they’ve done for me. They’ve devoted the best and the most productive years of their life to bring up a happy person. Everything I am is because of them and God. I promise to love and take care of my parents now and in the future.
Prayers: More prayers because they work. Pray in good times, in bad times more prayers at every moment.
Jamaican club: One day I need to roll with joof or mimi and just rock out all night at a hot Jamaican night club. Let me just whine all night with a hot or not so hot Jamaican dude.
Make a new Friend: I suck at making new friends and not at meeting new people
Become a morning Person: because morning people stay winning and I have to be on the winning team
Quality over quantity: I need to practice this in every aspect of my life from as high as career decisions to as low as picking out a meal on the menu.
Speak Igbo: a start will be replying my mom back in igbo as to that Is all she speaks to us. I honestly wish I learned how to speak igbo fluently.
Be Happy: One word: contentment.
Gratitude: Everyone wants to feel appreciated. It means showing respect and understanding. Life is better with gratitude and Business thrives on appreciation.
P.S: When I started my blog two years ago, My first blog post was “10 facts about me” . For a change in blogging sake I created an anonymous platform for my readers, friends, facebook friends and such…. I will be doing my 37th post and first vlog on “ask chichi 25 question” so feel free to ask me anything you would like to know here
Early this week I did a quick shoot with chuck Star photograper. The shoot was for SLV a Chicago Nigerian singer. He has a new single coming out and he wanted me to be the single cover art . The title of the song is called “AMAKA” translation in english means BEAUTIFUL. I am actually feeling the song, sounds like the perfect love song to listen to right now. When my sister told me about the offer, I felt mushy because I am not a model lol but who doesnt love a good photoshoot. I was told to depict the look of an African igbo princess and ofcourse I had to be sexy with it.
I will post the link to the song on my fcbk page when it is released.

The First ever African Fashion Week Chicago took place this past weekend; september 26th – 27th. It was a two day event filled with fashion, music, art and a great time. I attended both days and I must say I found this experience very rewarding, not only was it a good opportunity to network with industry professionals and fashion enthusiasts, it was also refreshing to enjoy an art exhibition from Chicago based artist Solomon Adufa and Ben Olafemi Kayede, the two great artists collaborated on an artwork that was later put on silent auction during the fashion show. Day one kicked of with Singer-songwriter Nola Ade performing a soulful song and ended with lovely African inspired designs such as Wanda Grace and Maryam Garba LLC.
Day two of African Fashion week Chicago was even bigger and more exciting. I was glad to see a lot of familiar faces; People actually came out to support and be a part of a good thing. The designers such as 828 Collection, Akese Style lines, Yasika Mode, House of Leigh, and Issa Sorogo showcased their designs with lovely afrobeat music playing. I loved the style of the runway it wasn’t your typical straight stage or T- stage, it was more of a U shaped runway, where the models actually went all around making it possible for everyone to get a good view of the garment.
